01 — Context
Where this started.
Boui wanted a player built around a community rather than a personal library — where what is playing next is something the group can see, and the lyrics are part of the experience rather than a separate lookup.
02 — Challenge
The hard part.
Playback is unforgiving. Audio has to survive backgrounding, interruptions, calls and screen lock identically on two operating systems that handle all four differently — and the app had to launch on both stores at once, which means satisfying two review processes with one codebase.
03 — Strategy
What we decided.
We built one Flutter codebase and treated platform-specific playback behaviour as the integration surface rather than duplicating the app. Release planning ran against both stores in parallel from the start, since a staggered launch would have split the community the product depends on.

04 — Experience
How it works for the person using it.
The visible queue is the centre of the interface — it is what makes listening shared rather than parallel. Lyrics follow the track in the same view, so nobody leaves the app to read along.
05 — Engineering
How it is built.
Cross-platform Flutter with platform playback integration on each OS, released simultaneously to Google Play and the Apple App Store.

06 — Feature stories
The decisions that mattered.
-
Shared live queue
What plays next is visible to everyone, which is what turns a player into something a group uses together.
-
In-context lyrics
Lyrics follow playback in the same view — no second app, no browser tab.
-
Dual-store launch
One codebase, simultaneous release on Google Play and the App Store, so the community landed on both platforms at once.

08 — Ownership
What was handed over.
At launch, everything below transferred to Boui. Nothing in this product depends on DevXAI to keep running.
- Full Git repository with commit history
- Infrastructure and store accounts in the client’s own name
- Architecture and deployment documentation
- Walkthrough session with the client’s team
- 30-day post-launch defect warranty
