01 — Context

Where this started.

ST7 Surveillance Solutions wanted a consumer security product that did not insult its user. Most mobile security apps present a red screen, a scare number and a subscription prompt; almost none tell you what was actually found or what to do next.

02 — Challenge

The hard part.

Two constraints pulled against each other. The scan had to be genuinely useful — apps, files, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, patch level — and it had to be privacy-first, which rules out the usual approach of uploading everything to a cloud scanner. It also had to stay light enough to run on the mid-range devices that need it most.

03 — Strategy

What we decided.

We built the analysis to run on the device. Nothing leaves the phone, which removes the central privacy objection to security software and, as a side effect, removes the backend from the threat model entirely. The product’s value then had to come from the quality of its explanation rather than from a server, so we treated the report as the deliverable.

04 — Experience

How it works for the person using it.

Every finding is stated in plain language with a specific remediation, and each remediation is a single tap. Results are ranked by real risk, not by count — a scanner that flags forty harmless permissions to look thorough teaches its user to ignore it.

05 — Engineering

How it is built.

App and file inspection, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection analysis and security-patch checks all execute locally. The build was kept deliberately lightweight so that scan time stays acceptable on mid-tier hardware, and so the app itself does not become the performance problem it is meant to detect.

06 — Feature stories

The decisions that mattered.

  1. Deep app and file scanning

Installed applications and stored files are inspected on-device, producing a ranked risk report with a stated reason for each finding.

  2. Connection analysis

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections are examined for suspicious activity — the attack surface most consumer security tools ignore entirely.

  3. Patch-level checks

Device security update status is checked and outstanding patches are surfaced with a clear recommendation.

  4. One-tap remediation

Every result carries an action. The report ends in something the user can do, not in a number they cannot interpret.
