01 — Context

Where this started.

JNTUH publishes exam schedules, notifications and results to a portal on its own timetable. Tens of thousands of students respond by checking it repeatedly, and the ones who stop checking at the wrong moment miss a deadline.

02 — Challenge

The hard part.

The value of this product is entirely in latency and trust. An alert that arrives late is worthless, and an alert that fires wrongly costs the app its permission to notify — students switch notifications off after two false alarms, and the product is then dead while still installed.

03 — Strategy

What we decided.

We treated notification discipline as the core feature rather than a delivery detail. Alerts had to be timely, categorised and few. The interface exists to make an announcement scannable in the three seconds a student gives it between lectures.

04 — Experience

How it works for the person using it.

Announcements, exam schedules and results are separated, so a student can subscribe to what affects them instead of receiving everything. The list is built for fast scanning, and each item resolves to its full detail in one tap.

05 — Engineering

How it is built.

Built in Flutter on Firebase, with push delivery through Firebase Cloud Messaging. The notification pipeline is the product’s critical path, so it was the part designed first and tested hardest.

06 — Feature stories

The decisions that mattered.

  1. Categorised alerts

Announcements, schedules and results are distinct streams. Students opt into the ones relevant to their year rather than accepting a single firehose.

  2. Push delivery

Firebase Cloud Messaging carries updates the moment they are published, which is the entire reason the product exists.

  3. Scan-first interface

The list view is optimised for a three-second read between classes; detail is one tap away, never a prerequisite.

08 — Ownership

What was handed over.

At launch, everything below transferred to Examupdt. Nothing in this product depends on DevXAI to keep running.

  • Full Git repository with commit history
  • Infrastructure and store accounts in the client’s own name
  • Architecture and deployment documentation
  • Walkthrough session with the client’s team
  • 30-day post-launch defect warranty
